What this means
Targets are assumptions you chooseDollar differences show how your entries compare with your chosen targets. They are not instructions to trade. Taxes, costs and suitability are not assessed. Target percentages must total 100%.
Free educational illustration only. Results depend on your assumptions and may not fit your circumstances. This tool does not provide individualized advice; do not use it as your sole basis for a financial decision. Read the financial disclosures.
Targets are supplied by you; this tool does not recommend an allocation or securities. Taxes, trading costs, and holdings within funds are excluded. Meeting a target does not establish suitability or diversification. Diversification and rebalancing cannot guarantee profits or prevent losses.
How this calculator works
Current weights = each holding bucket divided by total portfolio value. Target values = total value × user-selected target weights. Differences show the dollar change needed to reach each target.
Model assumptions: Targets are supplied by you; this tool does not recommend an allocation or securities. Taxes, trading costs, and holdings within funds are excluded.
Model reviewed: October 10, 2026. Outputs are rounded for display; calculations use unrounded values. Defaults and return comparisons are illustrative, not recommended assumptions.
Worked example
A $100,000 portfolio with $70,000 stocks, $25,000 bonds, and $5,000 cash has a 70% / 25% / 5% mix. Compared with your chosen 60% / 30% / 10% targets, the differences are −$10,000 stocks, +$5,000 bonds, and +$5,000 cash. This does not recommend trades.
Hypothetical example, calculated with this tool’s model; not a forecast or recommended assumption.

Does this tool recommend a stock and bond mix?
No. You choose the stock, bond, and cash targets, which must total 100%. The tool compares those targets with the dollar amounts you enter.
What do positive and negative allocation differences mean?
A positive difference means the category is below your chosen target; a negative difference means it is above. These are arithmetic comparisons, not trading recommendations or a test of suitability or diversification.
